We decided to go to New York City for our big summer trip this year. Nathan and Charlotte have been so excited about it! We decided to do it in March so for 3 months, we talked and talked about it, and they got even more excited. We couldn't believe when it was actually time to go!!! We woke up bright and early at 6:00 am and left at 6:45 when Grandmother picked us up. Both kids jumped out of bed because they were so excited!!! The picture of our bags is funny because Wayne has the smallest one. Nathan and Charlotte are sharing the medium sized one, and mine is the biggest...but I mean, how could I pack for New York and not bring several options???
The plane ride was great! We were on a plane where we had our own screen to watch movies or play games. Nathan and Charlotte played games and then they each watched their own movie and then Charlotte fell asleep. When we got there, we took a taxi to our hotel. From the very beginning, Nathan and Charlotte were amazed by all the people! And once we got into the city, they couldn't believe all of the tall buildings!!! Every single one was tall! We stayed at the Roosevelt Hotel. It was so nice, and Charlotte thought it was super fancy!!! The lobby was huge, but the rooms were small. That was one thing they weren't used to, ha!!! We didn't waste any time! We quickly put our bags in the room and headed out. It was about 1:00 pm. The first thing we did was get food from the street vendors. Nathan and Daddy got hot dogs, Charlotte got a pretzel, and I got a Gyro. It was the best Gyro ever!!!!! Then we headed to the store Nathan couldn't wait to go to...NIKE TOWN, yes, not just the Nike Store, but Nike TOWN. It was huge! I think it was 4 stories so Nathan was in Heaven. Not only were there shoes and clothes to buy, but it was also like a museum. There were displays about how Nike was created. Wayne gave them each $200 to spend on the trip. But they had to spend it in New York, no saving it (which is what Charlotte would have wanted to do). But he also said they couldn't spend it in the first two days. We told them we would go to their favorite stores for them to get ideas and then we would go back and buy at the end of the week. Nathan begged us to buy some shoes that first day, but we stuck to our guns :) He had fun trying several pairs on though. After Nike, we went to Trump Tower. It was actually really ugly and cheap looking. It was so surprised! There was lots of gold but it looked dusty. There were fake flowers in the atrium. It just looked gaudy and like it needed a major update. There were also tons of guards out there. Then we went to Charlotte's store of choice...The American Girl Store which was also about 4 stories tall. She made herself a wish list here. Then St. Patrick's Cathedral, The Nintendo Store, Rockefeller Center, the M&M Store, Radio City Music Hall, and dinner in Times Square. Times Square was shocking to the kids at first. There were so many people and so many lights that they couldn't believe it. Plus the street entertainment, homeless people, and tourists. They saw a lady who was naked except for a thong and painted with body paint as the American Flag. You could take a picture with her for $5!!! We couldn't stop staring! But after a few days of that, we totally got used to it :) And that was just the first day...and not even a full day! We had a nice night's sleep but woke up around 8:00 the next morning for Day 2.
