JV Black Season Cut Short (10th Grade)

We were looking so forward to 10th grade football. Nathan was starting on JV black as a wide receiver. He never missed a practice and was doing amazing. Several plays were designed just for him. The first game was against Jesuit. Nathan was a beast! He made several touchdowns and several long passes. On one play, he made a touchdown and was tackled in the end zone. When he got up, he was limping. He sat out for a while but went back in. After the game, he said his leg was hurting. Wayne took him to the urgent care that saturday and they said it was probably just a deep tissue bruise. We rested it, iced it, used a heating pad, everything. On Monday, he went to see the trainer that morning who said the same thing. Deep muscle bruise and will take a while to feel better. Nathan sat out that week of practice. Thursday night comes and Nathan took some ibuprofin, used tiger balm, icy hot, anything he could think of! The coach said if he felt like it, he could play the first series and see how it feels. Well he got a touchdown in the very beginning! He played the whole game and got several more long passes. After the game, he went out with his friends and said it was feeling better. But Friday morning, he woke up with it being really sore. Wayne had an appointment for him to get an xray and almost cancelled it because Nathan said it was feeling better but decided to just go get the xray that morning. They got the bad news that he had a fractured fibula! I just about died when Wayne sent me the xray. I was at recess and almost cussed out loud in front of the kids and then started crying! The season was over for him before it really started, and I was so worried about how he would take the news. I just wanted to get home and talk to him. Nathan had such a great attitude. He said theres nothing we can do about it so we just have to be positive. He said he'll still go to practice and be the beggest cheerleader on the side line. We were so proud of him! For him to be playing on a fractured leg shows how much he loves the sport.
