New Media Room Chairs

We have been wanting to get new chairs for the upstairs "media" room, and last week, we finally went shopping for them and found the ones we loved. They were delivered to us yesterday, and I know we are going to make good use of them! I can't wait to watch Oprah and all of my favorite shows!

Nathan was so funny when the men delivered the chairs. He wanted to "help" them, and they were really sweet to him. As they were carrying the different sections upstairs, Nathan would yell, "Be careful!" And then while they were setting them up, he asked a million questions: What's your name? What time is it? Is that my chair? When they were finally finished, they packed everything up and left. I don't think Nathan realized they were leaving for good, and when he saw the truck drive off, he started crying really hard, and said, "I want to give John hugs!" It was so sad :( I finally got him to calm down by giving him a juice box, and then he said, "Thanks Mommy, I not sad anymore, I just wipe my tears."

Nathan looks guilty here because I told him that he can't recline the chairs by himself...he has to wait for one of us to help him...he was trying to be sneaky :)

Happy Birthday Grandmother!

Last week was Wayne's mom's birthday. We celebrated by taking a cake over to her house. Nathan and I went to the grocery store earlier that day, and Nathan was in charge of picking out Grandmother's birthday cake and card. Once we got home, we found some candles to put on the cake, and Nathan found ducky candles that we had used on his first birthday cake. He said, "Ducks make Grandmother happy!" So Nathan held onto that duck candle and was so proud to put it on her cake once we got to her house :)

Nathan had to sneak a lick!

He talked Grandmother into trying the icing too :)

And at least he shared his "licks" with Grandmother. This side of the cake was pretty much destroyed before we actually cut the cake!

Time to blow out the candles!

Grandmother, Wayne, and Nathan...Nathan had this great smile and then right before I took the picture, he got one more lick! Someone just couldn't wait to eat the cake...I mean icing!

Happy Valentine's Day

Nathan had his school Valentine's Day party last week and brought home a bag full of goodies! He was so excited to go to his party and hand out his own cards and candy. Even though Valentine's Day is over, he keeps telling me Happy Valentine's Day, and suggests we eat a piece of candy...he just knows if I have a piece, then he gets one too! In fact, we had a bag of chocolates from Mama and Papa that I thought I hid pretty well. The other day, I was on the phone and Nathan was playing so quietly and nicely...I was so impressed! He kept coming into the kitchen to say hi to me, but then would run right back out. When I finally got off the phone, I found 8 wrappers on the coffee table! He just kept helping himself to the secret stash, and I was totally oblivious!

This fruit roll up thing was Nathan's favorite. It's called Fruit by the Foot...never heard of it. You're supposed to un-roll it a little bit at a time, then peel it off of the paper. But Nathan had his own way of devouring it...un-roll the whole thing first, then just eat it right OFF of the paper :)

Here's our Valentine! He's the best one ever!

Snow, Day 2!

And this is what our backyard looked like this morning! We had over a foot of snow which is a record for Dallas! The first thing Nathan asked me when he woke up was, "Throw snowballs Mommy?" Of course!

We played in our front yard for a while, and then Nathan saw some of our neighbors having a snowball fight and wasn't shy about asking to join them.

Boys against the girls! Nathan made two new friends, Anna and Claire. We had never met this family before, but they were so sweet to Nathan. He played and played with them for over an hour! Now I have two new potential babysitters! What I'm not looking forward to is the mess the snow is going to leave after it melts!

Snow, Day 1!

I cannot believe the snow we've had in Dallas! It started snowing early on Wednesday morning and snowed ALL day long!

This is what Nathan and I woke up to! So after Daddy headed to work, we got bundled up and went outside to play.

Nathan had so much fun running around and didn't care that he got all wet. When Wayne got home, the two of them played outside some more and even made a snowman!

Nathan's New Pet

On Sunday morning, the three of us were relaxing at the house when Daddy said, "Who wants to go to the pet store?" WHAT?! It was Daddy's idea to take Nathan to the pet store to get him a pet fish! Nathan was really excited, so we quickly got dressed and headed to Pet Smart. Nathan loves going there to look at all of the animals, but we've never come home with one :) We showed him the section that had Beta Fish (I've heard that these are the easiest to take care of). We let him pick out which one he wanted, and then got all of the supplies. Nathan was such a big boy! After picking out his fish and looking at all of the other animals, we brought him home.

Nathan helped Daddy fill the jar with gravel.

Here he is trying to pet his fish :)

And then he fed his little fish :)

We told Nathan we had to pick out a name for him. Nathan thought about it for a while and came up with Nemo, then he changed his mind and said, "How 'bout Dorie?" Dorie is the girl fish from Finding Nemo. We told him that was a good name, but this fish is a boy...can you think of a boy name? Nathan thought a little longer and said, "How 'bout Sharkey?" Sharkey it is!

Right now Sharkey is sitting on our kitchen table so that Nathan can eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner with him. He knows to feed him at breakfast and dinner time and even reminds me! During the day, I've found Nathan going to the kitchen table on his own to sit and visit with Sharkey. He'll even take toys over to show him! It's so cute to see him having his own conversation with him :) Let's just hope Sharkey doesn't end up like all of the other fish I've ever had!

Weekend in Austin

We spent last weekend in Austin visiting Carrie, Chris, and Otis. Auntie Carrie and Uncle Chris always spoil Nathan when he visits. The pantry was stocked with fruit snacks, the candy bowls filled with Hershey Kisses, and there were two packages of juice boxes in the fridge. Nathan quickly learned not to ask Wayne and I for a treat...he just went straight to Auntie Carrie who never refused him. Needless to say, he was out of juice boxes by Saturday afternoon!

Chris and Wayne are huge Arkansas fans, so when Nathan found this helmet, they were so proud that he wanted to wear it!

On Saturday, Carrie and I took Nathan out to lunch, to get a haircut, and to the toy store, while the guys relaxed. When we got home, Nathan was ready to ride his bike outside and take Otis for a walk.

Auntie Carrie always has a present for Nathan whenever she sees him. She bought him a Buzz Lightyear umbrella which was a big hit!

Since it wasn't raining, Carrie and Nathan took turns throwing acorns on each other and pretending it was rain :)

Here is Nathan giving Baby Sister a hug!

Nathan never took a nap Saturday afternoon, although he almost fell asleep in the grocery cart when we did a little grocery shopping. But he would not let himself fall asleep...I think he was scared he'd miss out on something fun! On Saturday night, we all went out to eat to a great Sushi restaurant. We stocked the diaper bag with paper, pens, crayons, and anything else to keep Nathan happy and occupied. Well, it turned out we didn't need any of it. Nathan fell asleep in the car as soon as we left the house and slept the WHOLE dinner away! We sat in a booth and just laid Nathan down on the cushion in between Carrie and I. I have to say, it was kind of nice to be able to get out of the house and enjoy a nice dinner without having to worry about Nathan! The downside is that he woke up when we left the restaurant and had a 2nd wind. We ended up letting him stay up late with us and had a great last night together!

Shaving with Daddy

Every morning when Nathan wakes up, he first says "Good morning Mommy!" and then he jumps out of bed, wanting to rush downstairs to see his Daddy. They have their own morning ritual: shaving, shower, and helping Daddy pick out his clothes. Nathan then helps me fix Daddy's breakfast and lunch, and when Wayne is ready to leave for the day, Nathan takes his lunch out to his car for him. Then Nathan says, "Bye Mommy, I go to work!" And he sits with Wayne in his car and pretends to drive for a few minutes. It is so cute, and something Nathan always looks forward to.

Here are some pictures of Nathan shaving:
