Day 10

One thing Venice is known for is glass blowing. There is a small island off of Venice named Murano which is the main "headquarters" for glass blowing. So we took the water bus over that morning to walk around. It was about a 30 minute ride which was nice. As soon as we got off and started walking, we found a demonstration going on. It was so cool to see the guys actually melting and molding the glass. As we walked around, we went in and out of all of the shops and saw everything from tiny, delicate sculptures to great big huge ones!

We stayed in Murano for several hours and then went back to the mainland for a gondola ride! It was nice because our guy took us through all of the narrow passageways in the city. We then went back to our hotel, changed clothes and then went to a nice dinner on the water. I saw this restaurant the night before. It had lights all around it, was right in the water with lots of flowers around, a cute awning, and waiters in tuxes...when I saw it last night, I said, "Wayne! I want to eat there!" He told me that waiters in tuxes means expensive, but still took me there for our last Italian dinner. It was so wonderful! Our expensive dressed up waiter was so nice too :)

After eating, we took a long walk home, got dessert from a bakery and found a piazza where two groups of musicians were taking turns playing music. They were dressed in tuxes playing old fashioned, "big band" style music. As they played, the crowd kept growing. Everyone was dancing and clapping. It was so neat! I felt like I went back in time! We drank wine and listened to the music for a while and then headed back to the hotel. We were a little sad to think we were going home tomorrow, but we can't wait to see Nathan and Charlotte!!!
