Rusty Update

We still love our Rusty! He got sick with kennel cough a few days after bringing him home. It was horrible sounding and Nathan and Charlotte were so worried about him. The vet gave us medicine and said it would take a week for it to go away. I showed Nathan and Charlotte you tube videos of other dogs with it so they would see that Rusty's cough wasn't any worse than other dogs. That made them feel better. I started to worry that he was so calm because he wasn't feeling well...that was one of the reasons we got him! Even the vet warned me that once he got over this, he might be bouncing off the walls! But nope, his cough is gone and he is still the sweetest. I can tell that he is a little more active but not anything crazy.

He is so smart too! He's learned, sit, stay, down, shake. He walks great on his leash...although he likes to sniff a lot and eat acorns, but we taught him "leave it" so if he gets an acorn, we say leave it, and he drops it! He barks only when he sees the vacuum cleaner or ice cream truck. He likes the car. He doesn't jump on people. Instead, he sits and wags his tail so fast that his bottom moves back and forth. He loves to kiss. And the best thing is that if Nathan or Charlotte fall or cry, he runs over and starts licking them. I mean did we luck out or what?! He does have a few flaws...he has chewed a few shoes (but I figured that's my fault for leaving them out) and he did not like water at first. I took him to get a bath and get groomed but they called me to pick him up because he was pulling so hard to get away, he was choking himself! I ended up taking him to our vet and they were so sweet! They spent the whole day with him playing and introduced him to the water a little bit at a time until he was comfortable. When I picked him up, he looked so good and felt so clean!!!

We do have to watch him constantly so he won't eat anything, but the kids really do help a lot. And Wayne loves him too! I'm so happy I did such a crazy thing and got him on my own. He was definitely meant to be!
