New York Day 5

Happy Fourth of July! After getting on our red, white, and blue, we got on our double decker bus and headed to Brooklyn to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. It was long but so pretty. The kids loved it.  We did lots of walking and lots of picture taking! We are pros at selfies by now! After walking across the bridge, we took an UBER to Coney Island. This is where they always have the national hot dog eating contest. We were hoping to get there in time to watch it, but got there right when it was over. Coney Island was so interesting. If you like to people watch, this is the place to do it. There was a huge boardwalk filled with all sorts of people. Nathan and Charlotte were ready to ride some rides and play some games right away, but we were also hungry. So we walked the whole boardwalk just to scope things out and then found a little restaurant. After eating, we rode the Cyclone roller coaster first. This roller coaster has been here for over 80 years! Charlotte really wanted to ride, but she wasn't tall enough yet. So Daddy and Nathan went first and then Wayne took them to play some games while I rode. It was so much fun! The kids played some games and won stuffed animals. Whenever they win a prize on a game, they are so happy!!!! We ate ice cream and then had to get a Nathan's hot dog. After Coney Island, we UBERED back to our hotel. Which, by the way, Charlotte was so funny about the UBER. Instead of asking if we were walking somewhere or taking a taxi, she kept asking if we were going to get an UBER. The UBER was really great though! It's cheaper than a taxi, and so much cleaner!!! We took a nap at the hotel and then headed a few blocks away to watch the fireworks! On the way, we picked up a pizza to take with us. Normally, they have the fireworks closer to Brooklyn, but this year, they were near Manhattan...just a few blocks from us. We could have gone down on the shore of the river to watch them, but we found a street that was one block up which was closed off to traffic. Tons of people were lining the street so we decided to find a spot there. The police told us that they pack people onto the shore, but that it takes FOREVER to try to get out and that we would see them fine on the street plus be more comfortable. Our spot was great. There were tons of people but they were spread out all over the street and sidewalk so we weren't shoulder to shoulder like the ones on the shore. We sat on the sidewalk and ate our pizza and watched the fireworks. My pictures didn't really capture how great they were. Nathan and Charlotte loved them so much!!!! It was a perfect ending to a great day!
