Circus

Whenever it's mine or Wayne's birthday, we do something fun with the kids and then pick the restaurant for dinner. For my birthday present, we all went to the circus and then went to Blue Fish for sushi and Orange Leaf for yogurt. The circus was so much fun! It was really entertaining this year, and Nathan and Charlotte were at the edge of their seats pretty much the whole time. I was too! Charlotte loved the horses and the trapeze girls. Nathan loved the motorcycles and the tigers. There has been a lot of controversy regarding animals in the circus and whether they are treated humanely or not. I think the time has come that eventually they will be forced to not use animals anymore so at this circus, they made quite the point to talk about (show videos, use posters) how they train their animals and take care of them. They said that they only train animals in a natural and positive way and have them do things that they would also do in the wild. Like have the elephants to headstands? That's kind of pushing it I thought, but they said they do headstands in the wild to kick down fruits from trees. Not quite sure I believe that. The one thing Nathan made a comment about was when an elephant was dressed up like a wooly mammoth. Nathan said he looked embarrassed to have everyone laughing at him. We agreed. But it was still really fascinating to watch everything. The act that I always think is so crazy is when motorcycles go inside this huge ball and go at top speed around the ball just barely missing each other. They do a few tricks and then add another one. At the end, 7 motorcycles were spinning around in there going in different directions. After the circus, we went to dinner. I love sushi so this was a real treat for me! We ordered Nathan and Charlotte chicken even though they barely touched anything. They were just looking forward to Orange Leaf! Happy 38th birthday to me!
