Nathan's Swim Lessons

Nathan just finished four weeks of private swim lessons. This was a major commitment because the lessons were Monday through Thursday for 20 minutes each day and for 4 weeks! Nathan took group lessons last year but they were more for getting him used to the water, not actually swimming. And since we have a pool in our yard, we really wanted him to have the private lessons this year. Miss Cindy teaches her students to "swim, float, swim" which means they swim for a bit, then they turn over and float to get air, and then swim again.

Well, Nathan was SO excited on his first day and jumped right in to Miss Cindy, but once he realized the lesson was more work than fun (and that he'd have to go under), he cried the entire time. This lasted the whole first week, and I thought it was going to be the most miserable 4 weeks of both of our lives! He didn't want to go under the water or float, even at our pool at home. Then we invited Nathan's friend Kelly over to swim (she's 4 and is like a fish!). After he watched her jumping in, going under, and swimming on her own, he gave into the peer pressure. I could hardly get him out of the pool! He wasn't scared anymore and was a completely different person for Miss Cindy! We definitely got our money's worth during the last 3 weeks...thanks Kelly!

I have a great video of Nathan, but for some reason, I'm not able to upload it...I'll try later.
