No More Training Wheels

Two weekends ago (yes, I'm behind on my blog!) we took Nathan to the park to attempt to teach him how to ride his bike without training wheels. He was so excited to try this! Daddy gave him a pep talk about how it wasn't going to be easy. He wasn't going to learn in just one day. We were going to have practice over and over. And he also will fall over several times while practicing. Nathan was really listening intently to Daddy telling him all of this stuff. I kind of thought he was going to decide he didn't really want to do it because of the words "practice over and over" and "hard work" and "fall down"...that kind of doesn't sound all that much fun. But Nathan took it in and said he was ready especially because he was almost 6 years old. Nathan was a little worried about falling over a lot so Daddy helped him get all padded up. He had on shin guards, elbow guards (an extra pair of shin guards that we put on his arms), his helmet, sweat pants...and he was going to wear a big fluffy coat but decided he didn't need that.

Charlotte took her scooter and practiced that while Nathan and Daddy worked on the bike. We went to a park that was not crowded at all and had a huge grassy area. We practice riding on the grass first and then moved to the sidewalk. Nathan was so good about trying over and over even though it was hot and he kept falling off. We were so proud of him! I know he'll get it soon, but man is it hard to teach a kid to ride a bike! I switched with Wayne one time balancing him while going down the sidewalk, and I thought, "No thanks, this is a Daddy job!"

Afterwards, we went to Berryluscious and then jumped in our pool to cool off!

Yay Nathan!!! I am so proud of you. You look really cool with all that gear on, too. I can't wait to see you ride your bike in person!!
